Lab 7 - Oil immersion is capable of delivering the largest scale images and highest resolution. Water immersion allows the aqueous cells to continue carrying out their normal functioning while viewing. Quantative fluorescent PCR technique has also been used in cancer research. One study looked into the correlation between that of two growth factors, insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), being expressed in non-small-cell lung cancers (NSCLC). "IGF1R gene expression was evaluated using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) from 114 corresponding fresh-frozen samples. IGF1R gene copy number was assessed by fluorescent in situ hybridization using customized probes (n = 181)"
