==Polymerase Chain Results This image shows part of the results gained from an experiment testing the affect of estrogen on the expression of cartilage-specific genes in the chondrogenesis process of adipose-derived stem cells. est-: estrogen negative group est+: estrogen postive group AGR: aggrecan group COL: collagen II experimental group GAPDH: Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase group Results showed the aggrecan gene expression in the experimental group (with estrogen) was significantly lower than control (without estrogen) and collagen II was not expressed in experimental group. GAPDH was considered as house-keeping gene. Type II collagen expressed in the control group, but no band was observed in the experimental group. The expression of aggrecan was detected in both experimental and control groups. This shows that there was a statistically significant result with the difference in aggrecan expression between the estrogen positive and estrogen negative groups. Estrogen was seen to have a negative effect on aggrecan expression.
