Introduction

This page allows 2011 Students to access their own specific wiki page.

  • Please note that all changes including additions, deletions and edits are logged by the wiki using the identity set by your preferences.
  • For individual projects, specific comments about the course and for your own use, each student has their own wiki page using their student number as a title for the page.
  • Hint - you can quickly get directly to your own page on your own home computer by adding your student number to this link http://cellbiology.med.unsw.edu.au/cellbiology/index.php?title=User: and then bookmarking.
  • Project Referencing information on how to add a reference list to your page. Hint look at the page in edit mode to see how the page is formatted to get a reference list. I also do prefer the formatting as it appears on the PubMed website, as you can copy and paste.

Individual Assessments

These questions should be answered each week before the next Lab.

Lab 1

These questions should be completed on you own page before next weeks lab.

  1. What are the key cell biology journals?
  2. Which journals allow reuse of their published content?

Lab 2

  1. Which chromosomes contribute to the nucleolus?
  2. Identify and add a link to your page of a recent cell biology article using confocal microscopy from the Pubmed database.

Lab 3

  1. Find the SDS information for chloroform and identify the hazards associated with this chemical.
  2. You will need to upload an image and add it to your page, with the reference and copyright information with the image.
  • Note this year I am asking students to not place a "z" at the start of the image name.
  • In the summary window also paste the following text as it appears on the page here:
    • {{Student Image}}
    • [[Category:2011Project#]] replacing # with your own Group number.

Lab 4

  1. Identify a commercial supplier of an antibody that relates to your group project topic. (Hint - Commercial Suppliers)
  2. In mitochondria, where is the gene located that encode Cytochrome C and what keeps this protein trapped within the mitochondria? (Hint - Watch Part 2: Factors Involved in the Intrinsic Pathway of Apoptosis

Lab 5

  • Complete the KO lab written exercise.

Lab 9

  1. Identify from one of the cell line repositories: a neural cell line and a muscle cell line.
  2. Identify the species and growth conditions for these cell lines.
