From CellBiology

Introduction

This page allows 2012 Students to access their own specific wiki page.

  • Please note that all changes including additions, deletions and edits are logged by the wiki using the identity set by your preferences.
  • For individual projects, specific comments about the course and for your own use, each student has their own wiki page using their student number as a title for the page.
  • Hint - you can quickly get directly to your own page on your own home computer by adding your student number to this link http://cellbiology.med.unsw.edu.au/cellbiology/index.php?title=User: and then bookmarking.
  • Project Referencing information on how to add a reference list to your page. Hint look at the page in edit mode to see how the page is formatted to get a reference list. I also do prefer the formatting as it appears on the PubMed website, as you can copy and paste.

Lab Assessments

Lab 1 - Online Work

  1. Add your signature to your own work page.
  2. Add a correctly formatted internal link to your page.
  3. Add a correctly formatted external link to your page.

Lab 2 - Microscopy

  1. Identify a reference article that uses the "superresolution" microscopy technique.
  2. What did the paper show that normal microscopy could not show.

--Mark Hill 18:48, 16 March 2012 (EST) Note that I will be checking the images uploaded in the practical class to ensure that they have the associated reference and copyright information required. This was part of the practical class assessment. Note several students have uploaded images less than 6 months old this is against the copyright requirements for JCB. Please replace with an older image.

Lab 3 - Fixation

  1. Locate a current SDS for one of the fixatives described in today's lab. Identify the properties and hazards associated with that chemical.
  2. Identify 4 papers required for your group work project. Cite on the Group Project discussion page and also on your own Individual page. Add one sentence for each as too why they are relevant to your group topic.

Lab 4 - Immunochemistry

  1. Complete the in class antibody exercise. (What is Musahsi?, Identify its function(s)?, What cells express Musahsi?, Identify an antibody to Musahsi and add link to resource, Identify a secondary antibody to your primary antibody labelled with an Alexa dye).
  2. Post your completed answers to the exercise on your own student page.

Lab 5 - Knockout Techniques

  1. Complete the in-class question sheet. Ensure you have your student ID on the sheet you submit.

Lab 6 - Cytoskeleton Exercise

  1. Complete the in-class exercise sheet.

Lab 7 - Imaging Facility

  • The assessment for this Lab is to list on your own page your contribution (to date) to your group project.
  • There is not a question for the facility visit.

Lab 8 - Tissue Culture

  1. Identify a mammalian cell line in the ATCC catalogue (and add a link)
  2. Identify the original tissue of origin of that cell line.
  3. Identify the original paper that characterised the properties of that cell line.

Lab 9 - Peer Assessment

  • Your assessment item is to look through the other Group projects and make an assessment of each.
  • Add your assessment on their Discussion page (anonymously).
  • Paste the same information of your 8 assessments onto your own page before the Lab next week.
  • Your peer assessment should use the same criteria that I will be using to finally assess the projects.
  • This should be a "critical" assessment noting both good and bad features, without unfounded comments or general statements (wonderful, terrible, etc.)

Lab 10 - Stem Cells

Complete the Lab Quiz.

Lab 11 - Complete Group Project

No assessment for this class.

Lab 12 - Microarray

  1. Identify a current technique used in gene sequencing.
  2. Identify a recent cell biology research paper that has used microarray technology.
  3. What aspect of the research findings were contributed by the microarray technique.
