Theory Exam Structure

  • There are two (2) parts to the exam.
  • Each part has five (5) questions, of which you select and answer only three (3) questions in each part.
  • Each question is worth equal marks.

Exam Content

  • Lecture material presented throughout course.
    • There are more lectures than questions, so some material may not be examined.
  • Introductory lectures given in the first week will not be directly examined.
  • The course content will be mixed between the two parts and not in sequence.
  • Signal transduction has only a single question, but will require knowledge of at least 2 signaling pathways.

Exam Preparation

  • Answer the question that I have set.
  • Use the lecture titles as your starting topics.
  • Identify the main topic issues related to structure and function.
  • Prepare practice summaries for each topic containing key points.
  • Some information was included within each lecture as background and to indicate relevance of the cell biology topic and not as a key examination topic. For example:
    • Historic timelines
    • Disease information
  • Fully labelled diagrams/figures can be used as well as text in your answer.
    • There is no "double-dipping" if your labelled figure shows all the information, you will not get more marks by saying the same thing again within the text, and vise-versa.
  • Allocate equal time to each question.
