Science ANAT 3231 Lectures

Introduction

This page supports Cell Biology lectures within the Anatomy Cell Biology Program. Listed below is the timetable and links to individual lectures in the series. Beneath this list are links to course handouts (previous and current).

In general, each lecture has an online page which links to Acrobat documents of slides shown during the lecture in either 1 slide/page (for viewing) or 4 slides/page (for printing) format. When printing online materials, please check dates on the documents, as earlier course versions can be still available online. Download Acrobat Reader 8.0

The online lecture page also gives links to additional online resources, such as textbooks and research labs.

ANAT3231 Lecture 1 Introduction - introduction to cell biology with historic background

ANAT3231 Lecture 2 Compartments - describing how compartments, both structural and functional, are formed witing eukaryotic cells which allow specialization of functions. Includes a brief overview of membranes, which delimit structural intracellular compartments.

ANAT3231 Lecture 3 Cell Organelles 1 - describing cytoplasmic organelles involved in protein synthesis, modification and export. Includes brief overview of: ribosomes (bound and free), endoplasmic reticulum (rough and smooth), transport vesicles, golgi apparatus, and exocytosis.

ANAT3231 Lecture 4 Cell Organelles 2 - describing cytoplasmic organelles involved digestion (lysosomes and peroxisomes), energy production (mitochondria) gene storage (nucleus), and endocytosis.

ANAT3231 Lecture 5 Cytoskeleton 1 - introducing the cell cytoskeleton its structure and function. Includes detailed coverage of intermediate filaments.

ANAT3231 Lecture 6 Cytoskeleton 2 - The cell cytoskeleton, includes detailed coverage of microtubules.

ANAT3231 Lecture 7 Cytoskeleton 3 - The cell cytoskeleton, includes detailed coverage of microfilaments.

ANAT3231 Lecture 8 Extracellular Matrix - introduces the major components found outside the cell.
