This lecture is an introduction to cellular organelles, beginning with those organelles involved in protein synthesis and export. The key components are: nucleus, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, transport vesicles, secretory vesicles, endosomes. The lecture slides and textbook alone contain enough information as an introduction to the subject for this level of study. If you are interested in further reading, I have also included below links to more detailed textbooks with further information and images. Please note this additional information is not necessarily examinable, but may be useful if you have not previously studied biology.
Understand role of each cellular organelle involved in protein synthesis and export/import
Understand the function and transport of vesicles in the cytoplasm
Brief understanding of types of protein modification
Brief understanding of secretion (exocytosis) and absorbtion (endocytosis)
Understanding of what cells secrete and absorb

About this Database from NCBI: "This database is a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere, and developed for the World Wide Web by NCBI, the National Center for Biotechnology Information. The database contains textual information and references. It also contains copious links to MEDLINE and sequence records in the Entrez system, and links to additional related resources at NCBI and elsewhere."
